Check your South African ID number
Start with a free ID number check. No account or payment required.
This confirms that the ID number is correctly structured. It does not confirm what Home Affairs currently has recorded against that identity.
But what does Home Affairs have on record?
Thrive ID Protect can verify supported identity information against live Department of Home Affairs data through our authorised verification provider.
Check My IdentityThis free check only uses the number itself: format, date of birth, age, gender, citizenship and the check digit. It doesn't look up any records, and the number never leaves your device.
Your ID number is only the start.
A valid South African ID number does not tell you whether the information currently recorded against your identity still matches what you expect.
That’s where Thrive ID Protect starts.
We verify supported identity information against live Department of Home Affairs data and monitor supported fields for unexpected changes.

Good to know
What does Thrive ID Protect check?
Supported information recorded against your South African ID: your registered identity details, ID status, marital status, life status and document information. It's verified against live Department of Home Affairs data through our authorised verification provider, with your consent.
Does Thrive ID Protect connect to Home Affairs?
Supported identity information is verified against live Department of Home Affairs data through our authorised identity-verification provider. Thrive does not provide unrestricted access to Home Affairs records.
Does the free ID checker access Home Affairs?
No. The free checker only validates the structure of a South African ID number. Home Affairs verification is part of the Thrive ID Protect service.
Can Thrive see everything Home Affairs has about me?
No. Thrive ID Protect only receives supported identity-verification information made available through our authorised provider for the checks we perform.
How often do you check?
Periodically. Each check is compared with the one before, and your dashboard always shows when we last checked and when the next check is scheduled. It isn't a real-time service.
Does a change mean I've been scammed?
Not necessarily. An unexpected change does not automatically mean fraud. If you don't recognise a change, we recommend that you investigate it, and a Thrive consultant can help you with the next steps.
Is this a credit check?
No. It doesn't look at your credit record and doesn't affect your credit score.
Can I check someone else?
No. Thrive ID Protect only monitors your own ID number, with your consent, recorded on the call. The free check on this page only reads the number itself.
What does it cost?
Your consultant will explain the options on the call. Nothing is sold online, and nothing starts without your go-ahead.
How do I sign in to my dashboard?
Go to Member Login and enter your email address. We'll send you a 6-digit login code. There's no password.
How do I know a call is really from Thrive?
Our consultants introduce themselves by name and only call people who asked us to. If you're unsure, end the call and email support@thrivesa.co.za.
